One of the first projects we started in the fall of 2016 was about growth mindset. We spent time figuring exactly what growth mindset is and the difference between having a growth mindset and a fixed mindset.
We worked on how to have a growth mindset in every situation and to identify when you are having a fixed mindset.
One project I did was to make a chart and list 3 things I have a fixed mindset about and 3 things I have a growth mindset about. Then I had to write another paragraph on a quote that appealed to me and a little backstory on the person who wrote it. I then wrote a paragraph on one thing I have a fixed mindset on. I chose swimming because I am very weak at swimming. I have taken many lessons yet I still cannot swim very well.
Another project I just finished was my ‘growth mindset selfie’ where I took a photo of myself and then added a quote of one of my new years resolutions for school. My resolution was to concentrate more on math so I can finish my work more quickly. I will fulfill my resolution by sitting more in the front of the class so I can hear and see better and sit next to people who I know won’t distract me and vice versa.
Since we started our growth mindset project I have been thinking about how I can have more of a growth mindset. It really has changed my outlook on life in an amazing way. I always think to my self, “am I having a fixed mindset?” and reflect on the outcome.
