Our latest course in Navig8 was “this changes everything”. The course revolved around the Middle Ages and everything in between. Our first project; We were tasked with creating a digital notebook that represented a curtain advancement in the world throughout history. We had Our six fields of study:
Transportation, Communication, Art & Design, Science & Medicine, Defence, Agriculture & Environment each person voted on which one was their favourite we were then split into groups with other people that voted for that topic. I was paired of with Luca, Daniel, and Maggie. This would be our group for the rest of the project. We decided to do our notebook on how portraits have changed throughout history. We decided the theme for our notebook should be an art gallery because we would be showing off certain pieces and and photos. I first picked which era of art I would write on, since my mother is a professional photographer I chose the 1900-present day era of portraiture. I focussed mostly on the photography aspect of portraiture and in the end it turned our looking very good, you can view our notebook Here.
Next we started on some “trading cards” that we would base off of a certain medieval “celebrity” (ex. Leonardo Da Vinci) we had to state their date of birth/death, name, personal info, occupation, and include a photo.
In between our main projects and idle time we also focussed on the social and biological aspect of the Middle Ages. We talked a lot about the Black Death and humanism. Our final project for this term was our sales pitch presentation. Our original groups we had were tasked with coming up with a new invention that went around our subject from the beginning; art & design. We watched a reality show called “Pitch” that demonstrated what exactly we would be trying to do. The show was based around two advertising teams competing against each other to try and make the best ad for subways new breakfast line up. Our groups would basically be doing the same thing except we would advertise our own inventions. Since our group was art & design we decided to pitch the idea of making an iPhone but with a built in camera lens. It would have all the same functions as an iPhone 7+ but with an amazing build in lens. After a ton of work and concepts we finally finished our presentation. You can view our keynote here.
Now that our course is coming to a close I can honestly say I leaned at TON. With all of the research and lessons we had, I truly had a lot of fun learning about our history.
