We were asked Why do people explore? To help us answer this question we started a new project in our “this changes everything” course, we were tasked with creating a comic book based on one middle aged explorer that discovered new lands. We were put into our original groups from the notebook project; Luca, Daniel, And Maggie. Our group chose Henry Hudson because he was very well known mostly for his discovery of Hudson Bay and the Hudson River, hence the name. Here was the premise of the project; you have recently returned home from the adventure of a lifetime and have many exciting stories to share. The King and Queen have invited you and three other crew members to court, and requested that you prepare a short Comic Book story and a persuasive presentation about your journey your fellow crew members are hopeful that your Comic Book and presentation will convince the King and Queen to grant your team the funds your explorer needs to make another voyage. Each person in our group was responsible for creating one page in Comic Life. We then decided what our comic would look like, we thought that having a mix of photos and drawings would look good, kind of like The Amazing World Of Gumball . Then we started our research, after we read a little on Henry Hudson we discussed on which section of his voyage each person would write on. I chose to do the section where he and his crew get stuck in ice, and his crew abandons him, the Henry then died of hypothermia.
People explore because they are curious, curiosity is built into our DNA. Even animals are curious, my pet cat is always exploring around our neighbourhood. People explore because they are intrigued by the world and finding new places. It is also a big accomplishment and finding new things no one has found can bring great fame. This project took a lot of work and a lot of planning and time, but in the end I found it to be a fun experience and a real challenge! You can view our comic life below.
