The Ninth Grade, So Far

Grade 9 has been a lot of fun, not just our activities and field studies but the new friends I have made and the new experiences I have had.  In fact, I would say that so far, grade 9 has been the best school year of my life.

We started off this school year with a fun and unique bang, our Calgary trip. This was my favourite field study so far. Not only for the learning, but for the bonding time. The Calgary trip was a nice time to have some time to be with friends, have fun and learn some interesting things.

I loved this trip and I grew a lot as a learner on this trip too. I had a hard time focusing at the beginning but I was able to pull the excitement together and learned a lot, with my favorite part of the trip being the baton training.

I think the blog post for the Calgary trip was by far my best blog post with the most content.

C A L G A R Y

The one thing I would change about it would be to add more links and photos so that there wouldn’t be huge walls of text and the post could flow more smoothly without the reader getting bored. I also learned from Ms. Maxwell that you can make text go around photo’s too (Which I have done here). I will definitely be using this more often.

The blog post I could improve the most on is my Crane Brinton post.

Brinton’s Theory

If I am to be honest, I don’t think I showed a lot of effort in this blog post. I didn’t include enough details and I was putting most of my effort into my math card blog post which we had going on at the same time.

One tactic I could use to prevent this from happening again would be to plan out the time I would work on each blog post.  This way I would be able to put an equal amount of time into two blog posts at once so that they would both be high quality, rather than one being really strong and the other being weak.

In math, starting out with assigned seating put me on the right track.  I didn’t have to think about where I was going to sit and with who, and I found it easier to focus.  For example, during the time of our card project I was sitting beside someone who I worked well with, and I know this benefited my project drastically as I was able to focus better and accomplish more in the end.

Math + Fun = Funth

I think this could be used in other subjects, where we list someone who we know we would work well with and the teacher would be assign a seat beside them. It might now work for other’s but I definitely know it works for me! I have noticed that recently in math and science, I have been sitting more with my friends and have noticed that I am finding it harder to focus and I think that I should start making better seating choices by myself.

Lastly, science. I personally love science and how you can always answer such crazy questions about our world and universe. I think so far In the year I have been doing extremely well In science. I put an absolute ton of effort into our lab safety video, which is one of my favorite video’s we have made this year.

I also was able to pack a ton of our science learning into my Frankenstuffie video.

Frankensuffie Fun

I also think that my group did amazing with our metaphor machines video. I cant really find anything to work towards in science so far, all I can suggest to my self is to just keep doing what im doing!

This year so far has been so much fun. I am so grateful to go to a school with a program like this. I am hopeful for the future!
