After we were done at the Microsoft visitor centre we took a short drive to the Microsoft garage where we were given an amazing speech/q&a from one of the head designers. We were also given a jaw dropping tour of the facility that included some incredible things. After the Microsoft garage we headed to the university village where we had lunch and then explored the shops around the village. We also visited the Amazon book store which was interesting to see since amazon started out as a book store back in the day. After we were settled at our hotel we visited the understory which is a huge glass sphere filled with over 100,000 exotic plants. The understory is used as a workspace for amazon employees, which gives a very interesting spin on office work.
The next day we visited century link field which is the stadium that the Seattle Seahawks play in. We were able to secure an amazing tour from one of the nicest tour guides I’ve ever been with. We learned about Steve carrel and his unique take on coaching through positivity instead of strictness. After we were done a century link, our class visited the living computers museum where we got to learn about the past, present, and future of computers. I was surprised at how interactive this exhibit was. Especially the 1980’s themed room. This exhibit was by far my most favourite from on the trip. Next up was the dale chihuly garden and glass where we were able to see the most incredible glass blown art in the world. Everything in the museum was completely hand made and it was absolutely mind blowing to see.
The first place we visited the next day was the amazon headquarters where we took a huge walking tour of the buildings around town. It was really cool because we used earbuds on our phones to listen to the tour while being able to walk wherever you want. After we finished the tour we went to the bill and Melinda gates foundation for another tour. We got the chance to see the things that bill and Melinda gets are creating to help make our world a better place. It was really cool to see the things that might lead to our planets future! After our visit at the bill and Melinda gates foundation, we visited the museum of pop culture. The mopop was super interesting, I really liked the fact that they combined learning about your favourite movies, tv shows, artists, and musicians through extremely hands on and interactive activities. My favourite exhibit was the sound lab where you could play real instruments while also learning about them. Soon after our extremely interesting visit at the museum of pop culture, we went up the Seattle space needle. The view was absolutely stunning! Especially since it was dark out, you could see the whole city!
The next day on the way home we hit up two extremely interesting locations. First iFly, which was a crazy indoor skydiving facility. And then the Boeing manufacturing facility where we got an insane tour. Fun fact, the Boeing manufacturing building we visited is the worlds largest building by volume!
In my opinion, this field study has been the most interesting one to date. I really enjoyed the fact that we went to Seattle knowing our inquiry question and then having the opportunity to answer this question through these places and through a documentary. I put hours and hours of time into editing and filming our final video which you can watch below! I hope you enjoy!
