We did it! We made it to Provincials! So did everyone else because we automatically qualified, but let’s skip the details. Either way, DI came and went as it normally does in the PLP class, but this time there were improvements to make and lot’s of time to make them. We started by redesigning our free stranding structures. Unfortunately, due to some less than accurate measuring of the weight for our freestanding structures from our team, we were a little surprised during regionals when we were told our structures were over three times the maximum weight that was allowed for the competition. We went barbaric… wild… SAVAGE on the structures and whittled them down as quickly as possible before our time came to perform. What we ended up with was a less than viable tower that supported no weight during our performance.

We also made some specific changes to our script and our very awesome animator, Samuel Scheewe, made some changes to the animation.

We came back for round two at the provincials and everything went pretty smooth. There was a small hiccup though when our background got knocked over in the middle of our performance. A very angry Sam made sure that we stayed on top of the performance and to carry on. In the end, we were all really happy with how everything went. We really liked our story and script, the actual presentation went well, and we were happy that our structure had weight. And then came the scores.

We were pretty bummed that we were scored so harshly. There were some things that we understood could have used some more work, one of the main being that we could have spent more time focusing on our second team choice element. As for the scoring of our story, I feel like they might’ve missed out on what we were trying to show but hey, they’re the judges, right?
Even passed the scoring though, we really enjoyed working with each other this year for DI and we’re all pretty excited to see what’s in store for us next year.
