Why was Canada worth travelling to in the 19th Century?
By: Maria Melhado
For this blog, I am going to be doing a little explain everything for the topic “The Laurier Era“. I am focusing on Clifford’s Sifton’s Open Door Immigration Policy on 1896. I was really interested in this topic, I guess because I can somewhat relate to the immigrant experience.
Clifford Sifton’s open door policy was when he opened Canadas immigrants to many people hoping it would benefit Canada. He made a whole campaign with the slogan “Canada; The Last Best West”.
My question for the topic was:
Why was Canada worth travelling to in the 19th Century?
I was very interested in this topic because even though Clifford Sifton falsely advertised Canada, many people didn’t regret coming here. I am glad they didn’t because without them Canada would be very different.
Here is my explain everything:

Please understand this is my first experience with explain everything!
Thanks!
