Destination imagination

Recently the PLP 8’s and 9’s have been working on a special project called Destination Imagination. This is a project or event that all of BC and much of the US competes in. In this project were several challenges that different students competed in. The challenges included a technical challenge, a engineering challenge, an improvisational challenge, a scientific challenge, an outreach challenge and a fine arts challenge. We were arranged in groups of 4-7 people. I was put in the engineering group in a group of 5. In the weeks when we had to get ready some of my group did not want to focus but eventually we got everyone on task and working. The last week or so was definitely the most hectic for every group at Seycove secondary school. The groups were frantically scurrying to get things done as quickly as possible for the big destination imagination Tournament hosted by St. George’s senior school. In the last few days we had to put in lots of after school hours to get things done.

All we had left to do was make some props and some final touch ups on the balsa wood structures. The day of the tournament we all woke up early for the long drive into Vancouver. Our whole group was on time and we met up at the central hall of the school. We arrived at around 7:30 and our main engineering challenge wasn’t until around 1 o’clock. Until 1 we continued to practice our scripts and encourage other seycove teams. After our main challenge we were all relieved we were done. After that we watched several other groups perform their acts. Once everyone had finished their challenges we sat down and waited for the closing ceremonies and the awards to come. At this point it was 5:10 and the awards were supposed to Start at 5, everyone was starting to wonder. Once it was 5:45 they finally announced there was a computer malfunction and the awards would be canceled. It was a long day.
