It’s all a game

In math class over the last month PLP 9 have been working on a very creative project. We have been working on math card games. And instead of just playing them we were making them. We had complete freedom with our card games as long as they included BEDMAS (Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction).

For my card game I decided on a war or battle theme and decided to call my game trench battle. I decided to give it such a distinct theme because it adds more personalization and characterization. The next step to my game was coming up with a solid set of rules and game mechanics so it would be interesting and playable. After several attempts at playable rules I finally had a good set of rules down. Along with a rarity system my card game was looking very good.

Next I decided that I would make a fully customized and homemade card art too because it gave my game a unique feel. It also gave each card a separate personality so they were memorable and not just a bunch of random cards. Once I made the card art I decided that I would print all my cards and laminate them so they would be sturdy and look very nice. This part did take a long time because I had to cut out my cards by hand with scissors and I had to cut out about 55 cards. Laminating them was also a bit of a struggle as there were so many they had to be laminated before they were cut.

Once I was all done my cards and my game board/ big card piece I was ready for a final test with my friend Logan before I played it with Mr. Gross. When we were testing the final product we found some last minute easy fix issues and changed them. When me and Logan tested them again Mr. Gross happened to come by and watch us play. Instead of playing it with him he just evaluated it based on me and Logan playing it. He really liked it.

Looking back on this creative project I think it was a really interesting way to format a project and a great opportunity to learn. Learning about Bedmas in creative way helped me remember it better and this project also taught you how to make changes to your projects and make tons of drafts to come out with a great final project. All in all this was one of my favorite projects ever.
