Reflecting On My Learning

It’s that time of year again, time for an mPol. An mPol is quite similar to last years SLC’s with only a few differences. This year instead of working on what we did well already we are looking at what we really feel we could effectively work on and improve for the next portion of the school year. Also, at the end of the meeting instead of the teachers and parents asking us a question we ask them a question on how we could improve in an area that we feel we need to improve or that would be really beneficial for us. We are also always coming back to our key question “how am I going to progress as a learner before the end of the school year?”

The PLP Learning Star

So far, I feel I have been doing very well in humanities and science especially. If you look at my learning portfolio posts you can see some very in depth detail in my writing especially in my newer posts. One example I chose from humanities and science that I think is an example of great work is my metaphor machines. In this project me and my group all worked very well together. Our first version of the project wasn’t the greatest but after a few remakes we had a really well done project.

Our Metaphor Machine

The reason I think I have been doing extra well in humanities and science is because I feel I am more organized in them and because I am more interested in them. With what we are doing right now in science (chemistry) and humanities (heritage minutes) because I am super interested and I automatically organize my documents into folders and put my notes together. In math and maker I still think I’m doing well but I think what I need to do is improve my organization. Two examples of work I have done where I wasn’t  very organized was the take your kid to work day portfolio post and the frankenstuffies project. In these projects. I didn’t have a organized plan going into it and to be honest, the result wasn’t the greatest.

Organization has never really been a strong suit for me but I feel now especially I really am using it a lot. As I advance in grade level I’ll have more and more things running at one time and I will definitely to improve on this skill as I will just need it more and more throughout my life. For every subject I feel that this will help in some way or another, it will help me hand things in earlier or it just gives me more time to go over a project in my head or get that final tweak into my video.

Looking forward I think that I have set two important goals for myself to improve over the course of grade nine. The first goal is to improve my organization in all my subjects which I feel is definitely within reach. My second goal is to become interested in all my PLP projects or courses, wether I find it interesting or not. I feel like being more interested in a topic will get me more motivated and make me want to learn more about what we are currently working on.
