GarageBand is an amazing app. You can create songs, sounds and so much more with it. You really have to know how to use it to your advantage though. In  Maker class we have been learning to use it properly and in particular how to use live loops and edit live loops to our liking. 

 

 

If you don’t know, live loops is a section of Apple’s music making app GarageBand. With live loops, anyone can make music from dubstep to Chinese classical. With the click of a button live loops will activate certain instruments or sounds perfectly on beat or on que. We first learned the basics of live loops and how to make songs with it. We then learned how to export it to different locations and how to record it. Then we were ready to make our own songs with live loops for real. 

There are many parts to a song. There’s an intro, chorus, different verses, an outro and many other parts. A proper good sounding song should have all of these. Our songs included some of these parts with different instruments fading in and out as the song progressed. To really make a good sounding song or even clip of music I think you have to understand this. 

 

For my song I decided to use the Chinese traditional live loops kit. Partly to be funny but also partly because I really liked the variation in instruments from the other kits. I added some loops not from chines traditional like bass guitar and jazz drums for a more upbeat feel. I also took away some Chinese instruments because I felt they overpowered everything else. 

To make a great song you don’t have to use one thousand dollar software or teeth chattering bass. You also can’t just put some tracks together and assume you have created a masterpiece or the next hit single. To make a decent price of music you have to learn about how songs come together, how different instruments compliment each other and you have to take note of different parts of your song and musical placement.
