Chemistry Stories⚛️

Hello and welcome back to another Scimatics post-project reflection.

This project was  slightly longer than some of my previous projects because we started it in the end of November and finished it at the end of January.                                                         The main purpose of this project was to understand how atoms act between each other wether they make ionic or covalent bonds.

Our first assignment as usual was to make a project-start mind-map about what we already knew about atoms and their chemical reactions. We used an app called MindNode that lets you make a neat and tidy mind map without making it look very messy.

We then started learning about atoms, which atoms are reactive, why and how they are reactive, and how they act with each other.

Once we knew the basics, we started to get into making animations by presenting the procedure we used when we participated in the class experiment.

After that, we went back to reading and filling out textbook questions and understanding how ionic and covalent bonds work. Once you understand them its quite simple.

We then demonstrated we knew how those bonds worked by putting them into a story board. I used characters that resembled different atoms to demonstrate how both ionic and covalent bonds work.

Once we got back from our winter break, we continued working on the textbook pages we were given.

Finally after about a week and a half, we began making our animations based off of our storyboard templates.

It took my awhile because making all the transitions work the way you want them to gets frustrating but in the end I made some pretty smooth animations that displayed how ionic and covalent bonds work.

I haven’t gotten my results from my animations yet but I created them following the curricular competencies.

Communicating

I made a clear voice over that said what was going on and who was talking while I displayed the bonding process for both types of bonds.

Processing and Analyzing

I carefully made a animated video (that took a little over a week) that used Bohr models to show the accurate electron arrangements when the process of Ionic and Covalent bonds take place.

Questioning and Predicting

I used all the time I was given in class to finish the work I had to minimize the amount I would have to do at home. After long time periods I would take small breaks every now and then.

Even though this project was somewhat boring because of all the textbook pages, I think it was interesting to learn how different atoms are made when 2 or more make bonds between them.
