Hey Y’all, Max here.
Take your kid to work day 2021 was interesting and different for me, because I went to two different businesses, and was able to experience two different industries. The first workplace I half-experienced was my fathers, which is a social-media management platform called Hootsuite. I say I kind of experienced it, because the time I spent with Hootsuite was a zoom call that lasted two hours. Under normal circumstances, I would probably have gone to my mother’s workplace, which is a Private school in East Van called Stratford Hall. Anyways, the reason I was on this zoom call instead of at my mothers school was because they wouldn’t accept visitors, probably because of covid-related circumstances. The zoom call actually was more informative than I thought it would be, and it gave me a good idea of what my dads workplace was like, even though I wasn’t actually there. I was given the chance to ask plenty of questions, and at the end they told us about opportunities at the company. It was very interesting to see how Hootsuite operates.
In the afternoon, I went down to Sepaus’s parents store, Dip Co. Delights. They were kind enough to welcome me into their store when I didn’t have anywhere to go that afternoon. I really enjoyed my time I spent there, and I feel like working there would be a good summer job or something like that. Dip Co. Is a grocery store/ deli that mostly sells European and Eastern goods, so the jobs I undertook involved stacking shelves, moving and labeling products, and using the cash register. I stayed about 3 hours there.
It was great being at two different business establishments, and I feel like I got a lot out of both. Overall my take your kid to work day experience was really great, and definitely something all students should do.
