The Loon Lake learning advance was my first ever trip with PLP. We were supposed to go to Oregon last year, but that was cancelled because COVID was spreading like crazy. Anyways, the first day of Loon Lake was fun, but unfortunately I got sick with COVID-19 and had to leave for home. In this post, I will go through the few things I did at Loon Lake. Additionally, we made a book in book creator about the trip. I will link it below.
We left for Loon Lake on Valentine’s Day. The ride to Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre was about an hour long. When we got to the actual lake part of Loon lake, I was surprised that the facilities were so clean and modern-looking. As soon as we unpacked, we got straight into a nature walk to take pictures, and a scavenger-hunt to familiarize ourselves with the various buildings scattered throughout the property.
After the nature walk and scavenger hunt it was time for dinner, which was incredibly good. I had heard that the food at Loon Lake was amazing, but that was probably an understatement.
The dinner hall was this spacious, high-roofed building with a buffet-style cafeteria line. The dinner that night was lasagna and Caesar salad. Needless to say, I didn’t think Caesar could be that good. Looking back, the food was probably the best part of the trip.
The next day is when things started going downhill. I felt bad in the morning and my condition got progressively worse. We did a 7 Habits session in the morning, but I got as far as lunch before I decided to stay in my room the rest of the day. Long story short I went home. I would later test positive for COVID.
It was very unfortunate that I didn’t get to experienced everything Loon Lake had to offer. Archery looked fun, and so did the laser tag experience. I also know that there was apparently lot’s of DI work being done, but unfortunately most of the few other people I passed COVID to were also in my DI group.
Overall, this trip was educational, despite it being cut short for me. During the few periods of work we did on the 7, I reflected on what I had read and written so far. The 7 habits project is still going on, so there will likely be a blog post for that soon. One thing we especially worked on at Loon Lake was growth as a learner, and the Learning plan. Since then, I have edited my learning plan so I have more accurate goals for this year. I enjoyed what I experienced of this trip and I am definitely looking forward to next years trip, which is apparently going to be all around California.
