Hello everyone,
It’s almost the end of term 2 which means that our Student Led Conferences are beginning. This is my first ever Student Led Conference(SLC). I’ve never done a student led conference, it’s always been a teacher led conference. A SLC is were I present my work in front of my parents and teachers. I will present a piece of work that I am most proud of, what I learned the most from, and the goal I have for this year. Our blogs are the perfect way to show our parents and teachers our work because they have been recording are learning all year.
The piece of work that I am most proud of is my Destination Imagination work. Being in the improv team, I had to get comfortable performing on the spot, which I am not able to do. That was my biggest challenge, so you might ask why did I pick doing improve in the first place, to get comfortable at acting on the spot in front of people. As our team practiced it became easier. While we were practicing, I tried to stay as strong as I could. I think as we discussed what went wrong we got stronger. Doing this challenge I gained more confidence, with being louder and performing. If you want to read more about my DI experience go to my blog.
This is the our score for our DI Challenge
The piece of work I have learned the most from is our blog posts. I have learned many things since the start of the school year about writing blogposts. There is a difference between my first blogpost and my most recent blogpost. My first blogpost is about Camera Angels and in that post you can clearly see that I didn’t know what to do. My most recent blogpost is about Destination Imagination. The quality of my work in first blogpost is not good. It doesn’t have enough pictures and links, which are very important in a blog. They make your blog better by making it more interesting. The quality of my work in my recent blogpost is much better though. It has plenty of pictures and links. I go back and fix any mistakes I have. Critiquing and revising your work is very important. It helps make the blogpost get stronger. I have learned that revision helps me with my writing.
The piece of work I have gotten a growth mindset from is Oregon. In Oregon I had to get out of my comfort zone. Going away for a week to work on a school project was something I didn’t think I would do. It was an amazing experience though. I am super happy that I went. It showed me many things, I learned so much. Also, I got closer with my classmates. To read more of my experience and my book from Oregon go to my blog.
Lastly I would like to talk about my goals for this year. I have come up with three long term goals for this year. The first goal I have made for this year is that I need to learn how to finish my work before I am supposed to hand it in. Sometimes I put off things until last minute and don’t even notice. I would ether forget about or keep saying I will do it tomorrow. I have already started working on fixing this. I am using the app reminders to remind myself what time I should work on what assignment. This is helping me get more organized. Which leads me to my second goal. Being more organized. I have already started this and so far it is working fine. Soon enough I will be organized without even noticing. The last goal I have is to learn to use more complex words in my writing. I want to expand my vocabulary. I may do this by reading more books and learning how to replace simple words.
This is my first ever SLC, hopefully I will make it through.
