Student Led Confrence Spring 2017

Another SLC?! Isn’t this like the fifth one now? Oh well, let’s get this show on the road.

This year so far has brought about personal growth as a student. I have undergone learning, ranging from historical events to skills I can use throughout my life. Today I will be leading this conference and have prepared examples from my portfolio that demonstrate learning I have undertaken so far this school year.

The project I am most proud of this year has been my Hanford Video project. This project was done in a group of Michael Sutherland, Zak, Jayden, Marley, and I. We acquired an excessive amount of interviews while on the field study, and cooperated with Jayden since he stayed behind. Our group worked together amazingly, with the work of editing and collecting footage being evenly distributed. This project taught me greatly about acquiring information from real people, working together in a team, and using time effectively to finish this project. I am very proud of the work our group did on this project because of those reasons.

The piece of work I chose to represent my growth as a student was my Laurier blog post compared to my Canada: The Last Best West blog post. To represent my learning as a visual in this post, i created a lengthy explain everything. This explain everything video took me an entire Saturday to create, and is detailed and keeps the viewer interested. The blog post itself included my script, information on the Winnipeg Strike, information on how I created my explain everything, and links for people who are still intrigued by the topic and want to continue their learning on the topic. This blog post strongly represents the growth I have undergone so far this year as a student, and my ability to create great work.

The piece of work that I believe represents my growth mindset was my “Who Started the War?” blog post. For this blog post, Zakaria, Michael Sutherland, and I created raps about who we think stared the war. Originally, we were planning on all meeting together, and creating a video-podcast like visual were we rap to each other, almost like a tv show. On the day we were meant to meet, which was also the day before it was due, everyone of us had a conflicting event that prevented us from meeting. This meant we had to improvise our idea last minute. We ended up creating a radio show-like video, where we all recorded ourselves and sent it onto one iPad. I wrote us a script that everyone followed, and once everybody had filmed their parts they sent them to me. I put together the video, and it ended up being better than expected. This blog post represents my growth mindset as I took leadership of the group, and created an altered plan for us.
