As we look back into history, World War One was one of the largest, most influential wars of all time. It was known as, “the war to end all wars” (it didn’t end anything but that’s a topic for another time). In class, we learned that there are many causes for World War One; the murder of Arch Duke Ferdinand, Serbia wanting to expand, Germany’s quest to become a world power and Great Britain fearing German power. All of these variables played some sort of role in causing the war. Of course, World War One was inevitable, everybody wanted different things and had there own reasons for wanting to go to war. However, was one country more to blame then the rest?

For this blog post, we were asked to delve deeper and research what we think is the main cause to World War One. Everybody has their own opinion on who started it, but I believe that Germany is mainly to blame.

Germany wanted to expand and become a world power of the same status as Great Britain. They were both innovative, advanced in technology and took aggressive actions that scared other countries in Europe. Germany was mobilized and had a goal to sweep across the continent, conquering along the way, capturing colonies, and becoming a force to be reckoned with. The fear they provoked caused countries like Britain, France and Russia to form alliances against Germany and what started out as a small push for power quickly blew up into something a lot larger, that nobody could’ve predicted.

I decided to present my opinion in the form of a rap. Upon reflection of my last blog post, I feel like a freestyle type rap is a lot more engaging and interesting to listen to then a video. Rapping about thesubject shows more emotion and it allows me to express my thoughts in a creative and fun way. For this assignment I decided to collaborate with two good friends of mine, Zakaria Rook and Michael Fourie. In the video below, we play the hosts of 96.5 Freestyle Radio Show and our topic of the day is who started World War One. In the video I also take on the role of caller number one, Adam. I spit some dank rhymes and rap about some of the key reasons why I think Germany started the war. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

You nasty Germans started the war, wanted to get rich because your nation is so poor. All the
propagandas you promoted from within, allies were scared but they knew your border’s so thin.
Everyone knew Germany wanted this war and its obvious exactly what you wanted it for. You were a country in the little leagues, didn’t have any colonies, just a bunch of power thirsty fiends. You tried to expand and become a world power, but sorry bud but that just doesn’t happen in an hour. Mobilized and ready is what you thought you were but even in France the allies had a plan to deter. You think your new technology scared Britain but it didn’t. You thought your navy could rule the water but they forbid it. New tanks and submarines you thought would win it, turns out they don’t do as much damage as when I spit it. When you broke the piece treaty that was the last straw, must’ve known the allies would take action against one who breaks the law. Don’t try to deny that the Schleiffen Plan was an act of war because you knew that was something no country would ignore. That attack provoked fear in the hearts of all but in the end it was Germany who started it, only to fall.
