Hello and welcome to my first SLC Blogpost. In this post, I will be showcasing three pieces of work. One is the piece that I am most proud of as a learner, another shows an example of my learning, and the last one demonstrates an example of my growth mindset. I have also set three goals that I will work towards to complete.
The piece of work I am most proud of is my Harry Potter Blue Sky project on invisibility. In this project, we had to think of a deep inquiry question about Harry Potter and his world. I chose the question: Could Harry Potter’s cloak of invisibility ever be created in real life? I am proud on how I researched, planned, and then executed my plan to create my project and presentation. I am really pleased how the project and the actual presentation night went. I learned a lot of facts about the future of invisibility, I learned how to plan and then film an informational video and I even learned a little about quantum physics! I’m already excited for the next project in the near future.
This will take you to the blog that goes more in depth into the Blue Sky project.
My second piece of work demonstrates an example of my learning. I have chosen to showcase my work on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, my blog posts, and pretty much all of the writing I have done this year. I have also decided to demonstrate this idea through a field school trip we went on earlier in the year. I have grown so much as a writer since the beginning of the year. My understanding of essay structure, writing skills, and the overall quality of my written work has increased dramatically. The novel study, and then an in-class essay on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was one of the biggest writing assignments of the year. By the end of the essay we learned how to plan, write, and then revise an essay in under 40 minutes. This is a very valuable skill to have, I’m sure I will be using it many, many times in the future!
When we got our marks back from our essay I was very pleased, but I still think I could do better. There was a lot of very helpful feedback that I am sure I will be using for next time. I pretty much got a B grade, which meant there was more room for improvement!
The field school trip to Florida was the biggest trip for the flight class this year. In Florida, I learned how to stay on task even when there are so many thins to distract you, and I also learned how to be more confident filming clips and interviewing people. Since the trip to Seattle earlier in the year I have become more mature and respectful. I have learned so much from going on these trips.
The third and final piece of my work Is my Destination Imagination group project. This project demonstrates my growth mindset. I think the best skill I have gained since joining PLP so far is teamwork. Throughout the school year, there has been various big group projects. Two of the main ones are the Metaphor Machines project and Destination Imagination. These big projects depend on teamwork to be successful. For Destination Imagination, our group had to meet outside of outside of school hours to finish our work. I have learned how to manage my time as a group member, how to understand and work on others’ skills and differences, and how to work with my teammates to make our performance the best it could be. I also had to learn a lesson about how hard it is to have one mistake wreck many weeks of hard word. These skills that I have learned from working in groups will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Three goals that I have set myself for the rest of the year are…
- Always have a positive attitude going into school work.
- Try to find the right balance between friends, downtime, and homework.
- Improve my understanding an implementation of feedback given back to me.
