The last couple of weeks I have been working on an at home project. My goal was to build an in-out ramp for my dog to help her get outside, as she has grown to old to be able to jump.

First I went out with my dad and we got some plywood. I started by cutting the wood into two rectangles. I then used the excess wood to cut out another rectangular shape to fit into the front of the window. This took me a while…

Once I had fine tuned the edges to fit perfectly I started to paint the wood with outdoor rain protected paint to help stop it from rotting.

Then I lined up all the pieces and installed hinges to help secure the ramp.

One I had finished everything I tried it out on my dog.  The first time was a failure as she kept on jumping off the sides of the ramp to get down, (it completely defeated the purpose of a ramp) and she couldn’t get a grip on the flat wood surface.

So, to fix this I used all the extra wood to cut out to walls for the ramp, and I went out and bought some outdoor matting. After I made the changes Tasha (my dog) had no trouble getting in or out.

This is a video of the creation process of the ramp:

By the end of my project I had made a reliable and safe way for my dog to get in and out of the house, and I learned more about being a home handyman.
