As school starts up after the winter break it is time to get back to work. As we ended last year on World War 1 its time to learn what happened after the war, what was life like after the war.? Most soldiers thought that life would be better after the war and there would be a new hope well……That didn’t really happen. This week in PLP we have been learning about the Great Depression that happened after World War 1. As we were researching about the great depression a thought came across my mind that how did the depression actually happen? Like why did it happen and what caused it? And that’s why I’m here to answer that question!
From 1929 to 1939 the world was in a “great depression” though Canada was effected the most out of all the other countries. The Great depression left millions on Canadians unemployed, hungry and often homeless. During this time period it was also known as the Dirty Thirties.
Economists still debate today whether it was a specific event that may have sparked the Great Depression, such as the crash of the Wall Street stock market in 1929. However, there is a general consensus that the Great Depression was the great result of widespread drops in the world commodity prices and sudden declines in economic demand and credit, which lead to rapid declines in global trading and rising unemployment.
