Our most recent unit in Science was all about genes and genetics. Our driving question was “Can cousins be twins?” To answer this question my partner Emily and I looked into the genetics behind identical twins how identical they really are. We found out that there is new research saying that they aren’t as identical as we originally thought. A big factor in their differences was the Epigentics, which are genes that can be altered by outside forces such as environment.
We also looked at alleles and used pedigree charts to see the chances of certain traits being carried on through generations of family’s. We used punnet squares to see the chance of getting certain Mendelian traits from the parents.
Our hypothesis was : no, they cannot be twins. We used pedigree charts, punnet squares and meioses to prove this hypothesis.

This blog has a good explanation about ‘can cousins be twins’ I think that the YouTube clip explained A lot as well but mostly the text it shows that cousins can not be twins because of the pedigree charts.

Thank you Anthony. I’m glad that our video and pedigree charts helped.
