Willemse assigned us a project to go along with another other mini project/presentation while she was away, fun times accompanied by more fun times she’d say. The task at hand was to learn about the Halifax Explosion, and then make a news report that conveys the historical events and impact of it. This news broadcast report sort of thing wasn’t supposed to surpass three minutes and include the use of a green screen to create ‘on the scene’ live coverage. Of course this video investigation needed to be historically accurate and well made, usual standards.
To start it off, the Halifax Explosion was a explosion created by the collision of two ships, the SS Mont-Blanc and SS Imo. The Mont-Blanc’s cargo included a whole lotta explosives and thats about it, and the SS Imo was empty on it’s way to pick up cargo destined for New York. These explosives the SS Mont-Blanc was carrying were destined for Bordeaux France to be used in the war.
The collision happened at a rapid pace of 2 kilometers an hour in the Narrows, a straight the connects the Upper Halifax Harbour to the Bedford Basin. The Colission of ships caused the SS Mont-Blanc to burn in flames for 20 Minutes then blew up with the power of 2 kilo tonnes of TNT, the biggest man made explosion ever at that time.
Taking all our new found information and combining it with the project requiremts and Tom’s fathers expspesive cameras equipment we created this.
