PLP 12’s History 12 journey formally begins with the Political Ideologies topic, as it lays the building blocks of our learning and prepares us for the other 9 Topics we will be covering. The process of learning we are learning through is a chronological adventure where the deeper past builds on our knowledge of the recent past and educates us on the present as well. Political Ideologies are something that every gathering of people share no matter the time period or place, and they often determine the shapes of wars, economies and entire countries. Despite the Political Ideologies topic holding a short time of focus within the class, it was still important.
The Political Ideologies lecture that started the topic off, introduced formal note-taking, an activity that would go on for many more weeks. We were told to choose one of the 5 ‘Hockley Notes Styles’ and follow it through the lecture given. This activity was building another fundamental skill needed by students, especially ones going into post-secondary. While doing this we were also taking notes and learning about the many political ideologies.
I chose the standard note taking for my first episode of notes because it resembles the simple and basic style of bullet point notes I have followed for the most of my high school career. Despite the borning start I managed to create some amazing notes down the road like this concept map made for our next topic: Paris 1919.
The Final part of the Political Ideologies topic was a Political compass test that we were assigned to take. Taking this test was extremely cool and incorporated an interactive aspect to the topic that made me feel involved and made me more interested. The test can be taken from this website and is a very well made tool. I find the coolest thing about this website to be the references they give you, that enhance your results and make the experience even more intriguing. Images like these give me a reference to where I landed and what everything new I’m learning really means.
The Next level
_____ I kinda skipped the challenge side of this assignement becuase it is not something I can do alone. Getting together with my friends and filming a trailer that would reflect the tens of other trailers and videos I have made in the past was not something I could do at this point in the year. Despite this I really enjoyed making a Political spectrum infographic as I was learning about the differnt politcal parties and ideals while making something in superimpose which I always enjoy.
