Becoming a Businessman

It’s that time of the year again, or I guess I should say, it was just that time of the year again. We just had our annual summer exhibition, and this is my blog reflection of the exhibition. In this one, our room was office themed, and we finally got to sit this time. There were individual groups we were put into based off of our podcast topics. There was music, sports, mystery, stories, pop culture, and life. All of those categories are pretty self explanatory, except life, which was the group I was in. Life was basically just everything that didn’t fit into the other categories. During the exhibition, we sat at desks in our groups, and we advertised our podcasts with business cards. I made sure to keep one of my cards to use when applying for a job.

This project had three main aspects: Moneyball, the stock simulation, and the Summer Exhibition.

I’ll start with Moneyball. If you haven’t heard of it, Moneyball is a biographical movie about baseball. The plot of the movie is Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s baseball team, decides to use a brand new strategy called Moneyball to attempt to create a winning baseball team. I won’t say anything else, but it’s a good movie that’s definitely worth your time even if you aren’t into baseball. We watched the movie as a class, and we then reflected on it. Warning: spoilers The movie is all about finances, and that’s what this project was about.

The next part of this project was the stock simulation.

I believe I got 3rd in the class, and whoever got first won $20, and an extra $10 if they only made ethical investments. I found that the best strategy to earn money was to take everything I had and invest it into a company that seemed stable. At the end, I realized that Tesla was doing amazing, so I invested everything into Tesla, which made me about two grand. I liked doing this, it was fun, but I find it to risky and unstable to invest real money. If I were to invest carefully, I would make no money, so if I wanted to actually make money I would have to invest large amounts, which means that I could also lose a considerable amount of money too.

The PLP 10 room during this exhibition was office themed, and what we did for most of it was just sitting in chairs while advertising our podcasts to people. It was definitely nice to get to sit down this exhibition, which was a luxury we did not have last time.

In preparation, we made business cards about our podcast, and each card featured a QR code on the back that linked to the podcast advertised.

I also made an advertisement that I displayed along with my business cards duing the exhibition.

This was one of the more relaxed exhibitions in a while, and it got me a few more people to listen to my podcast.

Well, that’s all for now, thank you for reading my blog, and have an amazing day.
