Live event post

For todays post it’s going to be all about this short project I did on live events. What we had to do was go to one our live events, this could be anything from sports practices to school events, just as long as it was live and there were people there to talk to. For me this was at a good time and I will share why very soon, so here we go.

The reason this was good timing was because instead of having to go to a normal sports practice, I would have the opportunity to video and interview some of my high level teammates, this is because I would be in California at a tournament with some very extreme player. This would be a great opportunity to create a unique video and at the same time show my teachers what I new about using video techniques to make this video all the more interesting.

Some of the criteria for this video are it must include: time lapse, freeze frame, changed speed, still photos with ken burns, music, and an interview with a participant. These are all things I have done in the past so I did not feel much stress about doing any of them now, I have also practiced interviewing people a lot since it was part of my Alberta video, and now that I have that knowledge, this wouldn’t be so hard.

Another great thing was that they were live streaming the game so I could use the footage because there is no way I was able to film while playing. This is was very helpful but at the same time the camera did not capture all of the plays because it was not managed by a person, it was in fact a robot camera. This the reason why some shots are not on the action and also not in full focus, however I am grateful for the camera anyway. The camera they used only looked at one angle so I couldn’t really use the multiple angle thing that I had planned on using in the first place.

Moving on to the interview, for this part I was going to interview two of my teammates, Alex and Leighton who both had vast knowledge on the topic of field hockey and where also are quite good at the game.

Some of the basic question I planned on asking was “ how do you think your first game went and, if not what could you improve”?

“How do you plan on winning in the second, third and fourth game”?

California is very different from Vancouver so I tried to get shots that show those differences although it is quite hard to capture temperatures, but it was greatly significant. It did mean I got to go out a lot more often and film in a more sunny environment.

Overall I think that I got all the shots I think were necessary in order to make this a complete video, I got things like video of the games, road trips, and interview with two teammates. I had a good time making this video mostly  because California was very nice and I had a great time playing for Canada there.
