Loon Lake Learning Advance

Recently, the grade 8 and 9 classes went on their first ever overnight field trip

The Loon Lake Learning Advance!

For this trip, all 80+ students from both grade 8 and 9 went to the loon lake lodge and retreat center in Maple Ridge to have a fun (and exhausting) week of learning and team building.

During the entire stay we did many activities and learning. We continued our work on the DI Challenges and the 7 habits of an effective person. Our DI group created our script, and ran though our solution a couple of times to perfect our play. However, during this  I did realize that my mood can really effect the rest of the team. For example if  I’m really stressed, it will bring down the mood of the entire group thus making everybody stressed. This is really not ideal, as for an effective team you want the mood to be as happy and energetic as possible to motivate and support each other.

We also worked on a reflection book of our entire experience.

Overall, this trip was a really interesting experience. One thing I was really proud of was my time management and responsibility during the trip. On the first day, being in an entirely different environment with 80 other people you don’t normally spend the entire day with can be really nerve-racking. On top of that we also had to manage our own time with new schedules that are constantly changing and unfamiliar places to be everyday. That being said, I am really proud of how I handled the entire situation. I was able to be flexible, and make the best out of situations that weren’t entirely in my favour. I  was never late or in the wrong place at the wrong time during the entire trip, which is a skill I want to bring home to continue working on in my normal day to day life.

During the trip I got to know a lot of my peers better, (and also got to shoot them with arrows). Some of the most fun things we did together as a group was, laser tag in the forest, battle archery, fort building, and a massive game of capture the flag. All these activities required me to use collaboration and communication with my peers to beat everybody else and I had a lot of fun talking to other people about potential strategies that could help us win.

This trip went a lot smoother then expected. I learned a lot about others and myself, and I hope that we will be able to go on another one in the future

See you next time,
