Hi and welcome to my scimatics “Time is Money” project blog post. This project in scimatics was the first one we did during the quarantine but like most of the project we do in scimatics it was super enjoyable. Not only did it challenge me and teach me plenty of new skills, it also allowed me to base my whole project around mountain biking which is something that I’m interested in. I love doing math that I can see, so I loved all the graphing work we did. Overall this was a great first project to do in quarantine so let me tell you a little more about the competency’s I needed to understand in order too succeed. (There will also be lots of pictures!)

This graph is the pictorial form of one of my linear equations.

The first competency I want to tell you about is the communicating and representing competency. I demonstrated this competency when I represented the linear equations I made in both images and writing to convey what I had learned about the job I had decided to do. This competency can especial be seen in milestones 4 and 5. Although in the begin I struggled to represent my linear equations on a graphing calculator I quickly learned what I was doing wrong.

The second competency is connecting and representing. To represent this competency I had to connect my chosen job to the real world. My business Idea on paper seemed to fare nicely against other basic jobs, but after further investigation I realized that it would not make as much money as I expected and I represented this in milestone 5. In think I really extended my learning in this competency as I went deeper than what the numbers told me.

The bike cleaning service I decided to do.

The final competency is understanding and solving. I demonstrated this competency in milestones 1 and 2. I had to map out and understand how all the time, materials and equipment needed to produce my service needed to effect the cost of doing the service. I think I did an accomplished job at demonstrating this competency as I accounted for my start up costs and expenses, but more importantly my time in deciding on then price for my service.

Milestone 2.

In conclusion I managed to demonstrate all the competency’s in this project and on the way there learn a lot about linear equations and graphing. I had a great time doing this scimatics project and cant wait for the next one to start. Tahinis for reading my blog and stay tuned because more posts are popping up all the time.
