When looking into the past there’s trillions upon trillions of things that you could remember. Unfortunately for us the human brain can’t remember all of them. This means we have to find some way to separate memorable events from unimportant ones. One way to do this is by finding their significance. Let me tell you the story of the invention of gunpowder and how nothing this is an event that is extremely significant.
Gun powder spread from China throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe in only 3 century’s. It was used in warfare as early as the 10th century. Since then it continued to be improved upon. That invention of the gun marked a pivotal change in warfare. Guns got bigger and more powerful throughout the next few century’s. Cannons became extremely popular on ships and battlements where weight wasn’t an issue. Artillery and bombs played a massive role in the First World War and showed how advancements in technology could win wars. This is also when the first tank was made. Effectively a tank was a movable battlement armed with a cannon. The tanks allowed the ally’s to make much more progress through the trench’s. Of course gun powder is still used today in every army in the world. The us has 393 million guns in total.
So now that you know the brief history of gunpowder and its uses let’s examine why I think it is a revelation piece of history.
Too begin we start with how significant the event was at the time of its creation. Gun powder immediately had a major role in war fare as well as in culture, like fireworks. This shows me that gun powder was significant almost immediately on a multi-national level.
Next we examine how wide spread and lasting the consequences of this event was. Gunpowder is used my billions of people everyday in every country in the world. Very few events will ever have the same consequences as the invention of gunpowder. This show me that gun powder is extremely significant on an international level.
Gun powder is a symbol of warfare to this day and adding that to what we already know the invention of gunpowder seems like a truly impactful point in history.
