If you were wondering if this video that you just watched was a take your kid to work day, well then you guessed right. This post will be focused on the day I went to work with my dad, who is a project manager for an architectural and interior design company called MGBA. This was a really fun trip since I was thinking of this as a career path, since I really love design.
This day all started when my alarm failed to go of. I suddenly woke up about 30 minutes before we had to leave, got ready quickly and headed out the door. It took shorter to get there than I was expecting, once we arrived I got a couple photos of the building and a ton of videos of how we got there. We headed into the building and I got a tour of the office, after that I was set up on a computer where I got to look at a project for and industrial building that they were currently working on.
Then once I was done scrolling through some of those plans and photos, my dad got me set up to check out a cool plan for a new cinema in Calgary, then I looked at some other examples that people hav done on different softwares (Enscape, Lumion and SketchUp). After looking and reviewing all these cool softwares my dad took me over to the interior designing area of their office to do a cool activity. One of the interior designers got me set up on SketchUp to design the inside of a cabin that they recently designed, I had a lot of fun with this since I used SketchUp a lot last year. I mainly worked on SketchUp while my dad did his actual work. After a while of SketchUp my dad came over to tell me that it was lunch time and that one of my favourite restaurants was only a block a way. I was super exited because the restaurant is called Tacofino, which is really cool since the first restaurant of Tacofino was located only in Tofino and my family and I don’t go to Tofino that often. Once we entered was a really cool building with modernized look but also had a really olden vibe to it. I decided to order the squid taco which had squid calamari coconut and some chips, I also ordered a Jarito. It was a delicious lunch and I wish I could have Tacofino more often.
Once we were done we headed back to the office and I went back to the interior designer area and did some more schedule. It was a lot of fun to design the inside of this cabin. Once I was done designing the inside of the cabin my dad got me set up on a program called Lumion, it was a lot of fun because it made the cabin and the design look more realistic. You could add working lights and fire, change where the sun is, time of day, the land, cloud range, add people and many more. After that it was time to go.
Overall this was a really cool experience, it made me more inspired to follow this career path. After all this I wanted to actually work at MGBA, I was one of the best days ever.
Bye👊🏻
