Robbie’s Souvenir Shop;a throw back to another time

For our last project of the year, we were asked to create a presentation on what we thought was the most important part of early Canadian history.

My partner Lucas and I decided to depict the Cariboo Gold Rush in the form of a puppet show.

We wrote a great script that told the story about two people, me and my buddy Lucas, travelling back in time to the Caribou Gold Rush in British Columbia.

In the story, we are in a Canadian Souvenirs shop that I (Robbie) own. When Lucas comes into the store, I decide he should come back in time with me so I hit him on the head with a baseball, which makes him more, shall we say, compliant with my plan. When we are back in the 1800s, we talk about how important the gold rush is to Canada and its history. We talk about how the people coming to BC  for the Gold Rush increased its economy and when they left, the economy plummeted. As a result, the province needed to join the confederation so that the debt generated by the failed gold rush could be managed.

Next, we created our puppets and sets for the show. We created the  puppets out of socks and added coin eyes.

We made our own blue screen out of sheets and filmed the story.

The most challenging part of the project was getting the audio and visual to sync-up.

It turned out pretty well, if we do say so ourselves, and we are confident it met the requirements of the projects.
