I like science and math (aka scimatix). We have had a lot of fun assignments and we’ve learned a lot.

One project that we did was about earthquakes. We had to make a building in an earthquake prone area around the world in the type of architecture that could be found in that area in Minecraft. This building had to have 100000 square meters of floor space. Then we had to earthquake proof that building. I was in a group with Austin. We chose Turkey. We based the architectur of our building off of this picture, which is a mosque. At first we built a building like the the main part of the mosque in the picture above but then we realized it had to have 100000 square meters of floor space. So we decided to add a huge cube in front of the mosque because we didn’t have enough time to make another pretty looking building. We tried to build add a basement to the mosque, but that didn’t work. The cube ended up looking ugly.

Here is a video of all the earthquake proofing we did.

Even though there are no earthquakes in Minecraft, we learned that for  a building like a mosque you need arches to keep up the centre dome. But to prevent the arches from being pushed outward you also need buttresses.

Another assignment we did was the door project. For this project we had to increase the surface area of the door to our class room three times. We had to do this by making shapes (like the one in the picture below) out of paper and sticking them on the door. The last assignment that I’m going to talk about is the survey project. In this project we’re going to sell anything we want in our school and then give our profit to a charity of our choice. I’m in a group with Kiefer and Owen. To figure out what people want we made a survey. We made a website with all surveys, of all groups in the class, on it for easy access. At the time of writing this we are still working on this project. Here is what our survey looks like.

In general I realy enjoy the assignments in science and math. As described above my top three are earthquake proofing a building in Minecraft, increasing the surfaces area of our class room door three times, and the survey project.
