The One About the Quilts: Part Two

Yay! You scanned the QR code on my quilt square! Or maybe you’re looking at my blog for other school work….. Or you’re bored on the Interwebs….. This got awkard

Anyways, this post is about my quilt square. If you haven’t read part one of this series, then explore my blog! Go ahead, do it.

My quilt square:

image

This represents Yureka and Isosceles going underground together to find the phone. I worked really hard on this, and it paid off in the end.

Here’s if you really want to go into detail:

The blue hand and the white hand holding each other represents Isocolese (the blue hand) taking Yureka (the white hand) into the underground of New York. The iPhone represents the iPhone (no duh) The colourful squats represent the upside of New York, and the bland brown represents the underground.

Working on it took about a week for me. That’s an entire week of sewing, which is eight classes, which is 10 hours and fourty minutes. I mean, we didn’t sew for four hours and forty minutes  but it makes it sound dramatic. Actually, during that time, a few things that happened:

– Quinn stabbed me with a needle

– I almost sat on my quilt square and needle

– 36% of our conversations were about Star Wars

Now, Mrs. Willemes told us to take pictures. I slightly forgot, so I took one this morning. After my square was done. Ssssssh, it looks like I’m doing something, so it counts.

Yeah, we had to embroider the details into our quilts. I made sure to outline the hands, and the border. Final product….. *drum roll*:

Yay! It looks so good! But, what about the myth? Yes, I did vaguely explain what this represented, but what about the entire story, the book? Well, the entire story of my quilt goes like this:

There once was a young boy named Isosceles. He lived in a small part of New York. One day, he was walking with his girlfriend, Yureka, when he dropped his phone down the sewers. “Oh no!” Isosceles exclaimed, looking down at the grate which his phone had fallen down. Yureka sighed. “Come, Isosceles. We can go find your phone….” Yureka said, taking his and, and crawling down into the dark underground of New York….

So there you have it! The amazing quilt square unit, that took two blog posts! Yay!

The One About The Quilts: Part One

So, this is a two-part post! Yay. The unit that we’ve just come to finish is about…… *drum roll* quilts.

I know what you’re thinking. “What?  What kind of unit would have to do with quilts?” Well, surprisingly, it’s a Mythology unit.

Here’s the thing. In the olden days, before they had books (I don’t know how they lived through boredom) there were drawings to tell stories. Some were more literal, for example:

image

See, is clearly Obama showing stuff about hope. But, this unit wasn’t about that. Our quilts are telling a story. See, we had to make an entire civilization. We is my group. There’s Sofia:

Robbie:

(I don’t know why this is upside down)

And William:

image

We made a civilization called the Yurekians. They’re an underground civilization .I could either spend hours typing it out, or just show you the Who What Where When Why:

image

So yeah.  It’s pretty much about these two kids, Isosceles and Yureka, who go to the underground the find Isosceles’ phone, and get lost. There’s a giant earthquake, and Isosceles, Yureka, and some people who went looking for them get trapped undergoing. They slowly go insane and start a civilisation. But if you want a small summary, here’s what out squares look like, here’s the graph of that:

To get a more thorough look, you’re gonna need to look at part two.

But I really liked the project. It was fun thinking up out own myths, and learning about Roman and Greek myths. And learning how to sew was fun, besides the fact that Quinn stabbed me in the thigh with a needle

So, see ya in part two!

The One About The Ads

This post is about a reflection on our latest unit, on advertising. It was a fun unit, and we learnt how companies scam you into buying their products…. That sounded better in my head.

Anyways, at the end of the unit, we got to make three advertisements. Back story here: we went on a trip to Oregon for a week. Three things I learnt: US money is confusing (Obama, colour code your money). Americans have giant portions. It’s ridiculous. And third, apparently we have an accent? What does a Canadian accent sound like? I’m getting off topic

So, we had to make three advertiments based on our trip to Oregon. One ad about a natural landscape, one on a business, and one about advocacy. I tell you know, making three ads that look professional are hard. So, my first ad was on the world smallest harbour, Depoe Bay. First, we made drafts and then went to the final copy.

First draft.

image

Cringe. I don’t know why I thought this was good. I got totally roasted by Mrs. Willemes on this. So I totally re-did it multiple times and

Depoe Bay Ad Draft 2

image

image

Yeah. Not any better. I mean, I bit, but not very. So I completely re-did it once more for my good copy, so….

Depoe Bay Final Version

This one is my favourite if the three, hence the fact that it’s my final copy. The photos are really pretty, if I do say so myself.

Next was the business ad. This first copy…… No. Just, no

image

Now, I only changed one thing about the ad in the next version each draft. See if you can spot it

image

So, apparentally it’s flip’ good. Because it doesn’t deserve to be Flip’n. But it does actually have good food, despite the smell….. So I improved this

image

Yeah. So Flip’n chick’n is a good place, I really advise going there. Not only do they have buffalo wings, but also do shaved ice and deep fried pickles.

Then there was the advocacy ad. I chose to talk a it’s catch and release. Pretty much its if you’re fishing for sport, release what you catch because otherwise you’re a level 10 butt. So, I made an ad about it. Side Note: it was originally blue, then I changed it to yellow, but I lost the blue version. 🙁

Advocacy Ad

So this is my ad. Originally the red text was an accident, but my friend told me it was good, so yeah.

I really liked the advertising unit. It was cool to know the different techniques used for advertising.

The One About The Star Wars Quiz

First blog post! Yay!

image

Okay, blog posts aren’t that exciting, but still. So, today we found out we’re going to do an entire unit on Star Wars! And first thing we did: do a quiz to see which character we were. And I got….

image

What.

What.

What.

What.

Okay, let’s break this down for my reactions.

Tortured and disconnected from human affection“. Okay, so a lot of the time I say I don’t care, and most of the time I don’t, but it’s not that I don’t have affectation! And tortured? No way!

You are the Empire’s most feared villain” Nope. Yes, I try to be intimidating, as being 4’8″ isn’t the most scary thing in the world, but I am not feared. Maybe by a few people, but not the Empire.

The galaxy has been cruel to you, so you have little remorse about turning to the dark side” Back up the giant truck. The Galaxy has done nothing to me! I am a sweet innocent little child! Okay, so I might be a bit pissed off from time to time, but that doesn’t mean life is cruel! And Dark Side? Hahahahahhaha no.

Those who doubt your power will do so at their own peril” No! I mean, if anyone doubts that I’m strong I might punch their arm…. Okay so maybe a bit.

So I guess I might be a bit like Darth Vader. But that doesn’t mean that I am evil.
