So in Maker Time we finally got started on our health and career 9. This is a subject every student has to take before graduation and being in PLP means it gets sucked in to that.
Anyways we started with an introduction with a mini project called The Things I Carry. I will write about that project later. We then were tasked to watch 4 videos assigned to us in our iTunes U course. These videos ranged from 8 minutes to 20 minutes, they were all on the same topic of food and healthy living but in many different forms. The video that impacted me the most was the first video we watched about how this guy got really healthy. He used habits and sanitation that is supposed to lead to the healthiest living possible. However he ended up concluding that you can basically become too healthy that it becomes unhealthy. He got out of touch with a lot of people and almost weirded people away with his choices.
The next step was look at some of the foods we eat ourselves. One of the things I consume a lot is ice tea or more specifically brisk. I also eat a lot of meat however I don’t eat a ton of vegetables or fruit. With a lot of what I eat it almost seems crazy how healthy my body still is. This is because I burn so many calories in a day with all my athletics that my unhealthy eating habits aren’t causing me too much trouble at the moment. Although if I ate healthier I could become very fit and would succeed even more in my sports.
The last thing we had to do for this mini project was create a portrait of ourselves made out of foods we eat. This wasn’t to much of a challenge for me because I know my way around photoshop pretty well so I used that. I started by finding an image of me I like and created a clipping mask out of it. This means that I can place whatever image I want inside me but not outside. It basically acts like a cookie cutter.
As you can see most of my body is made up of ice tea as i have a joke with some of my friends on trying to guess how much money I spend at the cafeteria on ice tea. The rest of the food is more accurately what I eat outside of school and have for meals like dinner.
This was a pretty eye opening project at the world’s food problems and our own eating habits. It was also quite a bit of fun creating the image of myself.
