Comic Cells
Greetings and welcome to the final blog post of the year! As you may know, we’re currently in scimatics, working on our science portion, cells. This assignment was interesting, as we had to create a comic book based on cells and diseases and photosynthesis and such. I chose to make a comic on how diseases and cells interact. Here it is if you want to see it!
Driving question: How do cells and diseases interact?
Cells and diseases interact with each other in a sort of clashing way. The diseases want to infect cells and spread the disease around the body. The white blood cells, however, are like the police of the body as shown in the movie Osmosis Jones. Their job is to kill any diseases that enter the body.
Evidence of learning
Over this project, I learned a lot! I now know about cells, diseases and all sorts of things like that. Here are some key milestones that helped my learning.
Milestone 2- Disease Wanted Poster
For this Milestone, we had to create an old-timey style wanted poster, portraying a disease as some sort of criminal that was at large. For this poster, I chose the well-known disease Smallpox. I learned some interesting facts about smallpox and had fun making the poster look like a legit wanted poster.
Milestone 4- storyboard
For this milestone, we had to create the storyboards for our comics. In this process, we figured out what our comics would be about (diseases and cells, photosynthesis, etc.), and we visualized what the key events in our comics would be.
Milestone 5- comic
Milestone 5 was the final comic. Creating it was quite easy because we had mapped out what it would be like in Milestone 4. We just had to create the drawings. We then used Comic Life 3 because it had all sorts of comic book features like speech bubbles, formatting and words you can insert to make it look like a professional comic that could be published. The end product tuned out super good in my opinion and I’m quite proud of it.
Core competencies
Here I’m going to go over the core competencies used in this project and how I think I did in them.
All class time is used efficiently:
I think I did alright in this competency. There were some times I got distracted in class but I always made sure to get back on track and do my work. I feel like I’m accomplished in this competency.
Correct vocabulary and accurate diagrams are used:
I believe I did quite well in this competency. In my comic, I used scientific vocabulary and included a diagram of how cells and diseases interact.
Cell/bacteria/virus characters interact scientifically:
For this competency, I think I did well. In my comic, I showed how cells get infected by diseases and how cells kill diseases. As I mentioned before, I included a scientific diagram on how diseases enter cells and multiply.
As all blog posts do, this one has reached its end. I hope I taught you a little about cells or I hope you enjoyed reading about my learning. I thought this project was super interesting and I hope you thought so too! Have a fabulous day! I’m going to sign off with a little motivational quote.
