SUMMER OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS 18 +

CampSuzuki-HoweSound-emailThis summer, 18- to 30-year-olds from across Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver will take part in the David Suzuki Foundation’s first Camp Suzuki Program! The three-part program combines summer camp with volunteer experience and leadership training to prepare youth age 18 to 30 to become Howe Sound champions.
PART ONE: CAMP
From August 9 to 14, 2015, participants will be immersed on Gambier Island in the unforgettable fun of outdoor summer camp. They’ll spend mornings learning about the region’s amazing ecosystems, from Western-based science and Squamish First Nations’ traditional knowledge perspectives. Evenings will be devoted to learning the hard skills needed to be successful conservation leaders.
PART TWO: VOLUNTEER
Participants will then apply their newfound skills through a six-month, part-time placement with a local community organization that works for the betterment of Howe Sound.
PART THREE: REUNION
Youth are invited back to camp after placements for a reunion to share their experiences and solidify their connections with the region and each other.
Youth will leave the Camp Suzuki program empowered, connected and equipped to champion a healthy Howe Sound. Does this sound like you? Head to our website for more information and to APPLY BY MAY 15!!!

Eco-Adventure Camp – Summer Program Volunteer

Are currently looking for volunteer assistant instructors who wish to deepen their experience of authentic nature based mentoring in a well-established summer program. Make a difference by helping to connect youth to nature, community, and self. Have a blast connecting with other nature based mentors and a whole community with shared values, and spend lots of time outside on the mountain!.

Why Volunteer With Us?
•    What’s better than time outside on top of a mountain?
•    Learn from skilled program instructors
•    Gain valuable experience working with children
•    Shuttle bus is available to get to and from the mountain
•    An 80 hour (two weeks of camp) commitment earns volunteers a complimentary 2015/2016 seasons pass

Qualifications
•    Minimum 15 years of age
•    Commitment to a minimum of 1 camp session (5 consecutive days) is preferred
•    A passion for being outside, in the forest and the mountains
•    Camping experience and outdoor skills an asset
•    Personable, friendly and keen to gain experience working with kids
•    Camp runs weekdays July 6th – August 28th.

Spring Break Gallery Interpreter Work Experience

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 12 students for our Spring Break 2015 Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors this winter. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Group Interview (by invitation only): Feb 22nd – Time TBC
Mandatory Training: (All students must attend both days)
Interp Specific Training date: Saturday Feb 28th – 9:30 am to 5pm
Volunteer Services Core Training: Sunday March 1st 11am to 5pm
Placement Dates (12 students – six per placement)
Group A — March 7/8/9/10 and 15/16/17/18 (2x four day stretches, all mandatory)
Group B — March 11/12/13/14 and 19/20/21/22 (2x four day stretches, all mandatory)
Shift times:10 am to 6 pm

Please note: All eight placement dates are mandatory. When applying, candidates must clearly indicate preference for group A (March 7-10, 15-18) or group B (March 11-14, 19-22) as desired. Candidates will not be considered unless they can commit to completing all 8 dates plus the two days of specific training.

There are two camps to choose from: Broadcasting for Radio & Television For students who want to experience working in a radio station or TV station as a broadcaster, students spend 5 days in a real studio environment and learn what it takes to be a real broadcaster in music, news and sports.
