Volunteers Needed for Indigenous Youth Program!

Burnaby Village Museum is looking for passionate and energetic Indigenous student volunteers to support their educational programs this spring (May-June). Student volunteers will work with Indigenous educator to provide fun, interactive learning activities for children on local Coast Salish history and culture at Burnaby Village Museum. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 7th. If you have any questions, please come see Ms. Desfosses in RM206.

UBC Physics Summer Camp Needs Volunteers!

UBC Department of Physics and Astronomy is running their annual Phenomenal Physics Summer Camp again this year and require volunteers to help! Volunteers will assist camp teachers and leaders in running activities, setting up and cleaning up before and after activities, interacting with and supervising campers, and helping to maintain a safe and positive camp environment!
Eligible volunteers are currently in or completing grades 10-12.

Digital Media Summer Camp!

Centre for Digital Media is offering a two week intensive digital media summer camp for teens from July 10 – 21, 2017. The Masters of Digital Media (TMDM) Program strives to engage students in project-based learning, encourage team-based collaboration, highlight education & career opportunities in the thriving digital media industry, and teach rapid iteration, prototyping and design essentials. TMDM is for students entering grades 9-12 with artistic or technical talent. Tuition includes lunches and field trip. Taught by current faculty and grads in the Masters of Digital Media Program.

Program runs July 10-21, weekdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm.

The Coast Capital Savings, Youth Get It – Intern Program

Coast Capital Savings is currently accepting applications for the Youth Get It Intern program. Attached you will find an overview of the program. Your school will also receive hard copies of the attached program overview. Applications close on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 4 p.m.

What is the Coast Capital Savings Youth Get It Intern program?

We know youth get it—just because they’re young, doesn’t mean they can’t be taken seriously. That’s why we give Grade 11 and 12 students a unique work experience opportunity as a Youth Get It Intern. Youth Get It Interns work full time during July and August, as well as every Saturday when they’re back in school.

The Youth Get It Intern program is a one-year commitment, from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018. This year we will be hiring 12 students to represent the Mainland.

 

How to apply

We are accepting applications until Friday, March 31, 2017 at 4:00pm. Students can find more information about our program and the link to the application at http://www.coastcapitalsavings.com/youthinterns.

To be eligible to apply, students must be:

  • Entering Grade 11 or 12 in September 2017
  • Live in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, or Greater Victoria
  • Must be available to work full-time during the summer months
  • Must be able to work every Saturday during the school year
  • Must be able to attend monthly after school meetings

All applicants will be advised of the status of their application via email; however, only short-listed students that meet our pre-determined criteria will be invited to a mandatory Information Session on Saturday, April 22, 2017. This is an opportunity for the students to learn more about the Youth Get It Intern program and its commitment ask questions, and a time for us to get to know them better.

Volunteers Needed for Race Force @ West Van Run!

Race Force @ WestVanRun

WestVanRun is an annual run that takes place in West Vancouver on the weekend of March 5. This event benefits Special Olympics and we are glad to have WestVanRun on board this year as a partner of Race Force. The Race Force volunteer team will have a huge presence during the 10km event which is happening on Sunday, March 5th.

Here are the shift details:
WHEN: Sunday, March 5th: 7:00AM – 11:00AM (between 25 to 40 volunteers needed!

WHERE: West Vancouver Community Centre, 2121 Marine Dr, West Vancouver, BC V7V 4Y2

VOLUNTEER HOURS: By participating in this event, you can earn 3 to 4 hours of volunteering hours. Volunteer reference letters are sent within 1 week after the event date.

3rd Annual Job Fair, the Vancouver Job Fair 2017 that will happen on March 22, from 11 am to 4 pm at the Vancouver Public Library, Central Branch.

 

This year YWCA  have a bigger space and a great mix of employers from both the public and private sectors that are hoping to fill over 500 immediate positions. They are also introducing a Speaker Series that will give job seekers the opportunity to learn more about hiring opportunities in the financial, tech and health care sectors.
