BCIT Business Global Relations, in partnership with the Broadcast and Media Communications Department, invites domestic and international high school students to participate in the Business and Media Career Exploration Program.

Over the course of two weeks, explore career suitability and options by discovering your values and personality strengths. Gain multimedia experience to enhance employment opportunities and develop your communication skills for personal and professional growth.

This two week program is offered in July and August.

  • June 29-July 10, 2020
  • August 10-21, 2020
Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm
Week 1 – Multimedia Storytelling:
  • Explore broadcasting to enhance your presentation skills
  • Engage in hands on media training to advance your career success
  • Learn communication and media skills employers rate as top priority when hiring
  • Areas of interactive study include interviewing, writing, story-telling, announcing, photography, podcasting.
Week 2 – Career Exploration and Planning:
  • Assess professional interests and career suitability
  • Learn about top future career choices and job market trends
  • Develop and present a personal career plan

Canadian and international high school students from 14 to 17 year olds are welcome.

OzTrekk – Operation Med School

In Australia, your dream of becoming a doctor can start much sooner!

OzTREKK represents 6 Australian medical schools that offer “direct entry” from high school. With a medical degree from Australia, you are able to have the option of either practicing as a doctor in Australia or returning to Canada.

Skills Canada Competition. Vancouver May 28th and 29th

The 26th Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) will be held May 28 & 29, 2020 at the Vancouver Convention Center, in Vancouver, British Columbia. The opening ceremony will be held on May 27 and the closing ceremony on May 30.

Skills Canada BC is an affiliate of the organizers of the Skills Canada National Competition, an annual event. SCNC is an Olympic-style competition which showcases Canada’s best in skilled trades and technologies as they compete to become the national champion in their respective sector. Students placing gold at the BC Provincial Skills Competitions will advance to SCNC to represent their province in their Skill Area.

Justice Institute of British Columbia Open House

JIBC continues to receive inquiries from high school counsellors, career advisors, educators, students and parents, like yourselves, who are interested in learning about the Institute and its programs that lead to careers in public safety. The focus of this event is to provide meaningful information to prospective students.

JIBC is a public post-secondary institution that offers innovative education and training in the fields of law enforcement, firefighting, paramedicine, corrections, emergency management, leadership, conflict resolution and other related disciplines.

Students will learn how JIBC programs can prepare them for a career in public safety.
Our programs are focused on applied learning and our expert faculty are active in their professional fields. We also provide a range of student support services that contribute to the success of our students.

Event highlights:

  • Visit the career fair in the gymnasium between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Speak with Program Advisors from various JIBC programs and learn what it takes to be competitive in these careers
  • Networking with recruiters from various public safety fields to learn what it takes to be competitive in these careers
  • Take a tour of the New Westminster campus
  • Watch one of our presentations in the theatre to learn about the many JIBC programs available in law enforcement, paramedicine, emergency management, firefighting, conflict resolution, leadership and more
