YouthLAB is a Family Services North Shore initiative that was created to address mental health issues facing young people, from a youth–led perspective. YouthLAB meets throughout the year to learn, discuss and create art around mental health topics affecting youth including anxiety, depression, trauma, healthy relationships and social justice issues. Each year we work towards an outreach project with a focus on engaging other youth on these topics, reducing stigma, and creating stronger communities.
Family Services of the North Shore offers an annual youth volunteer program. Youth Leadership Advisory Board (Youth-LAB) helps reach at-risk youth. Youth volunteers advise staff on new youth outreach strategies for the agency to decrease barriers for youth accessing help and/or counselling services. A new group of youth volunteers is selected every spring for a September start. The Youth-LAB program is open to 15 – 18 year old North Shore high school students interested in mental health and it runs September to June.
The application deadline is July 3 as we hope to interview through the summer and notify people by September 1st. Hours can be used for Work Experience if you are taking it next year.
Please contact Ms. Bramley if you have any questions.
