The song that ended me (and the world as we know it)

Intro & the project
On September 1st, 1987, a group called R.E.M posted released a song called ‘it’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)’. Little did I know that I would be freaking out about this song, trying to re-write it several years later and stressing about my time limit. The reason that this happened is because of my project. The goal of this project was to re-write this song to be a song about our worldview. A worldview is a point of view or a political opinion. Specifically, we had to write about our worldview changing from 7th grade to 8th grade. We had to write a solo song first, which you can see on this link, and a group song second, which you can see on this link.

The Renaissance
Throughout this project we studied the renaissance. It was very similar to our changing worldview. Because of the transition from Middle Ages to Renaissance are very similar to Elementary to High School. Even the entire ‘rebelling against the church’ is similar to ‘rebelling against your parents’ and I think that it’s a good way to show some very interesting insight on teenagers.
The competencies
Competency: create
- Create: What literacy skills am I using to write, speak, and represent in the texts I create.
- What this means to me, is what techniques am I using to write down my lyrics and what level of effort am I putting in.
How did I show this competency? Well, I put in good effort and was honest when it came to my lyrics. I tried to make them sound as good as possible. The techniques I used is basically trial and error, trying to see what work and what doesn’t. I also compare it to the original song a lot to see ho well they match up.
Competency: cause & consequence
- Cause and Consequence: Who or what influenced events to occur and what were the consequences of those events?
How did I show this competency? Well I showed that I understood how cause and consequence work, an example of such being the incident involving Martin Luther and the 95 Thesis as well as the foundation of the Protistan Church. The cause of this was the corruption Luther found in the papacy when he visited Rome, as well as the indulgences a way to pay your way through purgatory. This was the cause because Luther was utterly devoted to the church and seeing this corruption set him on the path to rebellion. The consequence is the Catholic Church loosing many followers to the new church founded my Luther. Another consequence was that the protistans listen to the Bible as their spritiuall guide, because the Cathlic church commanded so much power by saying they were the work of God.
My conclusion
My conclusion to the driving question, which was:
Who or what has challenged your worldview in the transition from elementary school to high school?
Well, everything really. My peers are constantly challenging my world/political views, something which didn’t happen in elementary. Even my commute, which has brought me a new appreciation for the environment has challenged my worldview.
