A couple of weeks ago we started a new part of our health and career unit about education and career. This part consisted of a bunch of mini projects including a gifted writing prompt, a timeline of events in our life so far, a couple of career tests and a movie about my future.
The first thing we did was start off with a writing prompt about what it means to be gifted by choosing something we would like to be gifted at and writing about the steps to achieve this goal. We took inspiration from this quote to get started:
For my paragraph I chose to talk about wanting to be gifted at science and the different steps it will take to get there, this is what I wrote:
The next assignment was a lifeline about 10 different events both positive and negative that have happened in my life up to this assignment. The important events in my lifeline include birth, moving to Canada from America, starting school, adopting my dog, my friend passing away, going to a camp as part of an international organization, starting high school, starting to play basketball, starting club volleyball, my papa (grandpa) passing away and this assignment.
Here is the lifeline I created:
We then had to think of 5 things we would like to happen in the future before the end of our life. I chose to include:
– Go to university
– Play an university sport either volleyball or basketball
– Be successful in what ever career I plan to choose
– To travel to every continent in the world
– Be happy
Our next assignment included filling out a couple of quizzes to give us some ideas about what we want to be when we are older. The quizzes asked us questions about different interests we might have in order to give us the best results for career choices.
Here are the quiz results:
What was pretty surprising to me was one of the quizzes said the I should be an airline pilot which is something I never thought of doing or would ever do. That same quiz also mentioned becoming a dancer which is out of the question, something else I would never do. The one thing I would probably chose to pursue and was on more than one quiz was a graphic designer and illustrator. This was pretty fun to take quizzes about what would be suggested for our careers depending on what I like to do and am talented at.
The final assignment in this part of our unit was creating a mini movie about our future. The movie will be answering the question: who will you be and what will you be doing in the future and how has your past lead you to this future. I chose to talk about my goal for the future would be going to a good university and getting a scholarship to play volleyball.
Here is the video I created:
Overall, I think these were fun assignments giving a glimpse into my future in both my education, career and sports. I will definitely use these quizzes and assignments to give myself ideas for careers I will maybe pursue in the future.
