When you are being trained for a job, most of the time you are told different ways that you can keep your customers and clients safe and happy. Although this is a very important part of working, is it the most important? The part of work training that should be the most important, is your safety.

In my Maker class, we have been working on the unit of work safety and what is considered a safe and unsafe procedure. To see what my class already knew about work safety, my teacher asked us to write a quiz. About half of the people in my class (including me) have jobs right now, so we all did our best to answer the questions using our knowledge of our workplace.

Next, we watched a very descriptive video in class that told the stories of different working teenagers and what happened to them that changed their life forever. This video stood out to me above the others we watched because it showed scenarios that appealed to my age group, mainly because they used jobs that some of us have right now (a cook and a construction worker being some of them).

Now that we knew the basics of being safe at work and what not to do while on the job, it was time to dive deeper into the rights and responsibilities that we have as workers. My class read a multi-page writeup that explained these necessities so that we could complete this worksheet!

I learned not only about the security that I am required to receive in a work place, but contribute as well. This includes the very important rule that explains that you can always refuse work if it is deemed unsafe.

These pieces of information have provided me with enough knowledge about how to stay safe at work. Now that I have this valuable information, I will always check that what I am doing at work is safe and responsible.
