MPOL (Grade 10)

Statement Of Learning Intent:

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

Growth, growth as a learner is the vital key to success. The following words are the things I consider to be the most crucial part of growing.

-Grit

-Motivation

-Determination

-Drive

Everything starts with this. In my opinion, anyone who has ever been successful was because of one word, determination. Without determination no one can be successful, you need to seize your moment, you need to act fast, you need to be determined. Where am I going with this exactly? Well MPOL is where I describe how I have grown as a learner. Those words above influence my growth as a learner.

What I plan my learning to look like this year:

Let’s move onto the specifics,

Humanities:

For humanities I wanted to accomplish an Extending grade. In other words, I wanted to follow the same path as I took last year to accomplish extending in humanities. This year, I wanted to express more of myself in my work, I didn’t want to rely on others to answer for me, I wanted to use my skills and abilities to create 100% original work, straight from me.

Loon Lake:

Loon Lake was the most exiting, engaging project we have done this year. On one side, I got to know my peers a lot better, and I got to explore more about myself as-well. On the other side, I feel most of the group collaborative skills they taught me I already knew from Destination Imagination, though the things they taught us weren’t 100% useless, a lot of it helped add onto what we knew from DI which overall increased my collaborative skills. Overall Loon Lake was awesome, there were some downsides, but my overall view on the retreat is that it was great. I feel I have accomplished my goal of being more of myself. I showed that I can create original work that I myself am proud of.

Winter Exhibition/Chinese Head Tax:

For the winter exhibition, I definitely feel I extended on this project. I showed that I can work effectively in a group, and that I can contribute an even amount of work as everyone else. I showed that I can create original work unique to me only. An example of this was the 3D printed statue I made. I spent hours designing and printing test models. I ended up with an original monument that I myself am proud of. The Chinese Head Tax I feel I also extended on, I followed and extended on the guidelines of the project, I included my own sources as research regarding the topic, and I wrote my own original ethical judgement on the topic. This again relates to me wanting to be original with my work. Here is the blogpost regarding the two projects:

The Chinese Head Tax/Winter Exhibition

Personally, I feel I have accomplished my goal, however I feel I should start to include more advanced vocabulary in my work as a next semester goal.

My statement of learning intent:

My statement of learning intent follows the same perimeters as last years, but there are some vital changes I made. First off, I really want to learn to express myself in my learning, I don’t want to rely on google to answer everything for me, I want to learn through every experience without tech to answer everything for me. How am I going to accomplish this? Well, first I would set a lot of reminders and goals for myself using things, these goals would remind me not to use google for everything; not to rely on other peoples work for my grade. I want to be me; have my own style, and have teachers recognize that my writing is my own personal writing.

Future steps I will try to follow whilst trying to create original material.

  1. Develop my own voice: Use my own ideas, thoughts, and experiences to make my work unique and personal.
  2. Write in my own words: Instead of copying information from sources, I will paraphrase my own words to express my understanding of the material.
  3. I will use examples from my own life: I will Integrate personal experiences into my assignments to add depth and interest to my work.
  4. Ask for feedback: I will talk to my teacher or a trusted advisor about my work and ask for constructive feedback on how to improve and showcase more of myself in my writing.
