🌲How Can We Test The Pythagorean Theorem And Law Of Reflection?🌲

Hello and welcome back to the forest of learning! In the project you will see the eventful process of creating Timothy The Arrow’s laser display.

As always, we followed the project path throughout the process:

Before I start showing my project journey, I wanted to talk about the key competencies we used throughout this project;

Questioning and predicting:  We used questioning and predicting a lot throughout this project. in milestone 1 we used this in our project mind map. We asked questions and wrote down our knowledge on light. We also used this in milestone 2 in which we created an experiment to test the law of reflection, we predicted the outcome of our experiment. In milestone 4 & 5 we used this competency while creating our laser display.

Applying and innovating:  For this competency, we tested our skills in milestones 4,5, & 6 in which we planned and then brought to life our laser display.

Finally, this concept was used in milestone 3 in which we tested our skills on the Pythagorean Theorem via a quiz.

After being introduced to the project plan, we immediately started on our first milestone. In milestone 1 we created a mind map of all of our knowledge/questions about light. We then got into a group of four people and wrote down some questions on light together. We put a star on our top question and went around the room putting other group’s starred questions on our  mind map.

Throughout the entire project we read and filled out text books to help further our knowledge on light as well as the Pythagorean theorem. To help our understanding on light waves (which we learned about in the textbook), we used this wave simulation to explore and observe wave movement.

In milestone 3 we were instructed to create an experiment using the scientific method testing the laws of reflection. We worked in a group of four to verify that the law of reflection is correct. We worked together to create a question, and think about ways we could test the laws of reflection.

Once we hit milestone 4, we started working on our laser display. We planned out how our design was going to be like on this website. To get started on it, we proved the Pythagorean theorem and Law of reflection using the website to make right triangles and with the scientific method to record our process of proving both.

I also wanted to experiment with the website a bit more and created a tree;

Once milestone 4 was completed, we started on our actual laser model. From this point on, we worked in a four-person group (here are my teammates- you should go check out their blogs; Gabi, Fraser, Max). Milestone 5 consisted of us planning out and deciding which model was best to create our laser display. We ended up choosing this design as our guideline for our display.

We then started to build. We gathered our materials and spent a while criticizing and critiquing our placement of the mirrors and lasers until we were satisfied with the results.

Here was some pictures of our process:

 Once we built our display, we were all done! Here is how it turned out:

And once we finished our laser display, we added to our mind map of all we need to know about light!

Overall this project was super fun and interesting! I learned a lot about light and the Pythagorean theorem. I absolutely loved this project, because light is a concept I didn’t know a lot about and I feel that my understanding of light has grown immensely since I first started this project. So, how can we test the Pythagorean theorem and the law of reflection? Well there are many different ways you can test this. In this project we not only tested both concepts by creating a laser display, but also tested the concepts in milestone 4 in which we had to find our own way of testing them. I had a lot of fun learning about the law of reflection, as well as the Pythagorean theorem. This project was awesome! As always,

Thank you so much for watching me grow in the forest of
