🌲 In this post you will find some advice for a PLP grade 8 student, as a part of the project “Mightier than the sword”  🌲

Hi there, it’s lovely to see that you’ve stumbled across this post. As a grade 11 student, I want to help set you up for a successful grade 8 year! Here are a few tips I wish I knew when I was in grade 8:

  1. Organize Like a Pro: Start developing a to-do list or calendar to keep your school assignments and social commitments in check. Prioritize tasks based on deadlines and importance.and make sure to update it as frequently as you can. -> (Side note: PLP provides you with a handy app called Things, which I’m sure you’ve already been introduced too.. but don’t tell the PLP teachers: I actually prefer another app called Taskade – you can download it for free on your phone and iPad to make sure you can always update your To-Do lists on the go :))
  1. Master Your Time: Time management is key. Plan times throughout the day to complete school work, and make sure to include space for breaks as well. Planning study time is extremely important, as it keeps you accountable and less overwhelmed – especially when you have a whole bunch of assignments due!
  2. Study Smart: Opt for shorter, focused study sessions instead of marathon cramming. Break your study time into manageable chunks with short breaks in between to stay sharp.
  3. The Art of Saying “No”: You don’t have to do it all. Learn to say “no” when you’re stretched too thin — yes, even to teachers. Asking for an extension is not the end of the world, and it does not make you a bad student. Feeling overwhelmed is just as valid of a reason as any other. Overcommitting can lead to burnout.
  4. Passions Over Quantity: Dive deep into a few extracurricular activities that genuinely interest you. Quality trumps quantity when it comes to commitments.
  5. Take Time Off: Regular breaks are essential. Step away from your tasks, engage in a hobby, or simply relax to recharge your batteries.
  6. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care in your routine. It could be going on a run, or drinking some tea every morning while listening to some music — This can look differently for everyone. Making time for yourself aside from school work is extremely important.
  7. Positive Outlook: Maintaining a positive attitude is your secret weapon. It can be really hard at times, but approaching school with an optimistic mindset can make all the difference.
  8. Be Kind to Yourself: Grade 8 can be really uncomfortable at times. It’s extremely important to treat yourself the way that you would treat someone you love. At the end of the day, you are stuck with you and only you! Treat yourself with forgiveness and care. It will get easier over time as you get to know yourself more.

Here is a letter to you with some more advice: this time, focussing a bit more on PLP :))

It was great of you to stop by!
