A couple of weeks ago we got to go to Oregon for a field study. This field study was a week long from Saturday morning to Friday evening. This field school had multiple purposes, the first was for science. We are learning about tectonics in science and Oregon has tons of tectonic activity. The second purpose was for humanities. We were to interview an Oregon or Washington company and then make an advertisement for them. Now lets take it back to October 13th at 6:00 am, we are about to leave. The map pictured below.
The first leg. We started our trip at around six in the morning. I was in the van first along with Ben, Meg, Kaia, Jude, and Matthew. It was a very uneventful trip until we reached our first rest stop. We had crossed the border half an hour ago and we all needed to get out of the cramped van and stretch. We met with everyone on the bus and started a workout. Our teachers wondered if we would have that much energy on the rest of the trip. We got back in the car and headed down south to our first real stop cabellas.
The ad. Cabellas was very fun there was tons of cool animals stuffed and put on display and tons of funny items. After cabellas we started towards our lunch destination Clark’s family restaurant. We did about half an hour of driving until we reached Clark’s, it looked like a old style family restaurant. Turns out Clark’s had the best burgers in the twin harbours and it was a very nice family restaurant. Clarks had amazing food(I ordered waffles) and everyone enjoyed it. Then it was time for me and my van group minus Matthew to interview the Clarks manager for the ad project.(see other post).
First night. After Clarks we went south down to Oregon and went to The Astoria Column. Then we went to The peter iredale shipwreck. That evening was so beautiful with no clouds and a amazing sunset. This was so cool it was probably my most photographed place in Oregon. After the peter iredale we went to the pool at the koa and had a lot of fun there. Then just like that the day was over and we slept for the first time on a PLP trip.
Zip lining. After fort Stevens and Dairy Queen we went to one of the main highlights of the PLP Oregon trip, zip lining. Zip lining started of with the teachers splitting us up into two groups. Each person got a harness and a helmet with your permanent nickname on it.(mine was goofball). Then we started out on to the zip lines, i went first and it was amazing. After going on the fastest line there was at the course it was time for the dunker, were you could go into the lake on the zip line. I decided to do it and it was totally worth it!!! After the dunker there was one more line, the race line were there was two lines next to each other and you got to race your friend. Me and Anders raced Noah and Liam. We lost but it was still so much fun. This was probably one of the most fun experiences on the PLP trip.
The next day we headed south to our next overnight place, the South beach yurts. On the way we stopped at Tillamook dairy factory. This was a very cool stop. We got to see how the cheese was made and how it is processed, then we got to eat some of the cheese at the cheese tasting bar. My favourite was maybe the bbq cheddar or the plain medium cheddar. In all the cheese was very good, also the gift shop was pretty good also.
This time I’m only talking about our lunch destination. We went to johns incredible pizza company, its like chuck e. Cheese but without animatronics. This stop was one of my favourite stops all trip. This place had ok food but an amazing arcade with rides and a tv room were they were playing all sorts of kids tv shows. I ate really quickly and then got to the arcade. In the arcade I played all sorts of games like flip a coin, air hockey, spin the prize wheel and went on a huge spinning ride. It was amazing, almost as good as zip lining.
