Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today we are going to be doing another weekly blog post. In this post we are going to be talking about how in the past week we used CBC radio and television archives as a window into the past of Canada, specifically the 1950’s. Let’s get into some interesting things I found out.
On our first assignment we had to watch a episode of CBC gem show back in time for dinner. It is about a family that has to live of couple of days in the decades from 1940s on in the condition that the people back then lived in. I think that I was really interesting that the entire house got renovated to look like the decade it was in. This shows what the idea of fashion and decor in the 50s was. It also showed that there was lots of funding behind the show and they wanted it to seem very real.
The next assignment we had to do was in class and we had to research an article from the 50s or 60s and then we had to ask questions about it. I found it interesting how many articles were archived. The one I did look at actually was interesting and showed me what skiing competition was like in the 50s. I specifically chose one about Canada’s very own Nancy Greene and how she won an Olympic gold medal. I specifically mentioned that she talked about how she had so much support at what she did. That very much showed the post war prosperity in Canada. Below is Nancy Greene racing in the Olympics.
Thank you for reading this post and I’ll see you next time.
