For my second ever post I’ll be explaining my thoughts and opinions on how World War I started. In class, there was a discussion of how the war initiated and multiple theories were discussed. Just like my class, historians have many different theories of how this war could have commenced, so I took it upon myself to research and discover how the first ever World War started. Now if you typed in google “how did World War I start” it says that the assassination of Franz Ferdinand was the immediate cause of this war.

In actuality, the death of Ferdinand was only a spark, not truly the main reason. The real reason why World War One started was because of unrestrained nationalism in Serbia, Germany, and Great Britain. Serbia and Germany both wanted to expand and increase their global colonies while Great Britain wanted to be able to support their already existing colonies. You can imagine what would happen with these three strong independent countries battling out, trying to expand and to have colonies all over the globe.
In my video, I have partnered up with two classmates (Jackson & cashel) to summarize our opinion of how the beginning of World War I started. We have done this by creating a puppet show containing the main points of how and why the war actually started.
(If you get easily offended please do not watch, we try to impersonate some accents (sorry Europe))
A brief reflection, this assignment really help me grasp my knowledge of World War I and the true beginnings of how the huge massacre started. At first, I had no clue on anything that had to do with World War I accept for that it started in 1914. After completing this project the puzzle pieces came together to really help put into perspective what all those poor soldiers had to go through in those dire times.
To conclude, even though this puppet show took way too much effort for what the actual final product came out to be, I greatly enjoyed this short segment of World War I and how this intense war broke out. I really do feel like I learned a significant amount these past few weeks.
