If you are a frequent viewer to my blog you would have some sort of recollection of what I will be explaining. This post is a snapshot autobiography, meaning it’s pretty much a picture book, with some filler words to keep you on the right track. But, unfortunately for me it’s no regular snapshot autobiography. On top of the autobiography, I have to apply the six historical lenses from my last post. This autobiography will include 4 main events from my life that have stuck will me, from my birth story, to moving to a different continent, to my first time experiencing poverty, and my first International ski race. From these 4 events I will apply the historical lenses.

Birth story:

Now this is quite the story to tell. From what I’ve gathered about my birth, is that it wasn’t just the typical push, scream and there the baby is ( I know it’s a lot more but it’s for emphasis). So when my older Brother was born, my Mum had a cesarean and was left with a scar. When is was my time to be born all went wrong, my Mum went into labour for too long and her uterus broke which was a big no-no. My heart stopped beating and that’s when the real panic kicked in. The Doctors had to do an emergency operation on my Mum to yank me out, and I’m glad to say I’m writing about it now. My Mum nearly died and so did I, it was a pretty traumatic experience all round. But one thing went unknown for years and that was all my medical conditions. a lot of my babyhood was in pain due to my asthma and eczema that my parents did not know about. You could say the significance behind my birth, is that a new life was brought into the world, and that life is extremely important to my parents and me, as IT IS ME. Seems pretty weird to be asking for evidence of my birth, as I am the evidence. But quite a few photos were taken of me just after I was born and you can interprete from the photos that I was not happy from all the commotion that occurred. Due to my birth there is a huge change in this event from the past to me being born. My parents, happily married with one child, no major problems with him (expect for him being a little weird). But it all changed when I decided to join the world and I nearly took away my mum‘s life and mine. Although lots had changed the continuity behind this story is that we are still all together and most importantly, happy.

Moving to Canada:

The back story to my moving, as i like to think of it, is that we got bored of living in England (end of back story).
But in reality, my dad was worried that bringing up two young children in London was worrying and didn’t offer a lot of opportunities. So in 2004, we made our first voyage over to Canada and we traveled around in an RV. We found that Vancouver was best fitted to our needs so we put the paper work in. 3 years later we finally decided to make it official and we moved.
Why is this so significance? Well the reason of its importance is that, if i didn’t move you wouldn’t the reading this amazing blog, now would you? Only joking, a little. The true reason is that it is a huge step forwards in anyone’s life, moving across the planet is pretty damn significant. From not only a change in scenery, but in lifestyle. The movie from England to Canada is a huge change, it was to benefit my opportunities that would later be crucial to my future life. The only thing that was continuous throughout this change was family, no matter how far we move my family will always be family. The cause of this was due to my father. It was his opinion that we should move as it would give us a new start, and would come with plentiful benefits. Not many consequences came with our actions, except for the countless of hours of boxing and unboxing our belongings.

Trip to Cuba:

The point of this trip was more educational than vacation. My Dad thought it was a good idea to experience Cuba before the trade agreement ( I don’t really know what that is expect for America left them to dry up) would soon be lift and Cuba would be turned into an all inclusive 5 star resort, just like Hawaii. The reason why this trip was significant is because it was truly my first experience of poverty and a third world country. But in actuality poverty never really affected Cuba, (that’s what some locals said) it is still a beautiful country and even if the people lacked money, they did not lack morals.  Everywhere you went there was a smile, I don’t know why, maybe they wanted money, or maybe they were just generally happy as they did not fear failing. There is no real change in Cuba, when traveling there it is like going back in time. Cuba is just a big time capsule, full of old American cars and gadgets, it was like the 1960’s… I think (sorry middle aged people)? The cause of this trip was because it has been on my Dad’s bucket list for awhile and it was more an educational adventure than a brain relaxing vacation.

First international Ski race:

Now ski racing may not seem as cool as soccer or American football, but to me it is the most extreme sport out there. So when you dedicate all of your childhood weekends and most of your teenage ones too, getting into the Whistler Cup is a huge achievement. It took 4 days a week for 25 hours, over 5 years and I finally qualified, and no one can take that away from me ( I even have the jackets to prove it). Why skiing racing? What’s so significant about that? To answer the obvious questions is because it is an achievement that I have worked on very hard and for quite a while. Also it’s an international ski race, INTERNATIONAL, yes other countries participate, most kids only make provincials and maybe nationals if they are lucky. This is so significant because it was my first time representing Canada, my new home, and not Great Britain, which made me finally feel Canadian. The reason why I got into the race was because I came Top 5 out of BC and they sent me to represent BC’s portion in Canada. After finishing the race I came 16th, which is not bad for an international race.

Now to end this post on a good note, I hope you learnt a little bit more about me (maybe even too much). The point I was trying to make throughout, was my understanding of historical thinking, not just on important historical events but on the little ones as well. I enjoyed re-living the past and bringing some memories back to life not just for me, but for whoever is reading this blog.
