mPOLs 🙌🙌🙌

Welcome to my mPOL ( media Presentation Of Learning) blog post. This is a post that I will be presenting to some teachers and my parents. In this post I will being showing previous work I have done this year to show how I am going to improve as a learner throughout the rest of the year. I am going to show some work that I am least proud of, some skills that I want to improve and some of the work that I have had the most fun doing. The driving question I am going to answer during this post and the presentation is “How am I going to progress as a learner before the end of the school year?” At the end of the presentation and this blog post I am also going to ask a question directed towards my parents and teachers. This is something to do with the previous question and it has to be something that both my parents and teachers can answer. So without further ado, let’s get into the work I have completed this year.

At the start of the year I produced the work that I was least proud of. These pieces of work were the first blog posts that we were assigned to do. One of them was the Camp Capilano post that we made to reflect in our experience at the first field school of the year. The second one was the SMART goal post that we made to show the goals that we want to complete by the end of the school year. With both of these blog posts there were a few things that I could have definitely improved upon. One of these things was making sure that I read all of the instructions properly, so that I knew what I had to put in the posts and how to put them in. Both of the revisions I had to make for these posts involved the proper embedding and adding of links and other videos.

Later in the term I was also told that I should include more reflection of what I learned during the unit. Instead of just writing what we did in the unit I must include more of the things that I learned and what I found interesting. So what did I do to fix this, or what am I going to do to fix this? One thing that will help me a great deal is spending more time working on the blog posts outside of class to reflect on my learning, instead of just trying to get through the posts as quickly as possible. Another thing I am going to start doing more is proof reading of the work that I am creating. This was also something that I was being encouraged to do. Both of these things will help me greatly to produce higher quality work on time so I can keep up to date with new things that I am being being given.

Earlier in the year closer to the end of the first term I wrote a self assessment on how I thought I was doing in school and what grades I thought I should get. One of things that I wrote in my self assessment was that I wanted to get better at making and editing podcasts. Podcasts are the theme of this year’s PLP 10 class and we are making a lot them throughout the year. I had never made a podcast before and had no idea how I should edit or record one, but that soon changed. I am by no means an expert now but I have improved the quality of my podcasts and I want to keep getting better. There are a couple of things that I am going to do to get better at making podcasts. One of these things is listening to more podcasts. I want to listen to different genres of podcasts and see how they’re edited to add to the messages they are trying to send to the listeners. The first couple of podcasts that we created were at Camp Capilano. These were ok for a first try but now after some practice we have gotten much better at making them. One of the most recent group ones that we made was about the Sins of the City, which was about the emergence of Vancouver. If you compare this podcast to the one at the beginning of the year the improvement is very dramatic. I want to keep on improving my podcasts as I know there more ways I can improve them. This is one of my goals to complete before the end of the school year.

I do my best work when the topic that we are studying is something that I enjoy learning about. The first humanities unit that we completed this school year was definitely something that I really enjoyed. The unit was on WW1 and it was in this unit that I think I did some of my best work because this was a unit that I enjoyed and had a lot of fun learning about. There was a podcast assignment that we had to do for the end of the unit and a couple of blog posts that we had to do. The blog post that I made for the unit was, in my opinion, the best one I have made all year. It had all the links and photos and examples of work that I had made and it was overall a good representation of my learning during the unit. Of course there were things that I could make better and revise and I did do those things but I could have still put more time into the reflection and the things that I learned part of the post.

Another project that that I really enjoyed was the golden ratio project that we did about the golden ratio. I was proud of the work I did because I had fun doing it and I was able to build something that represented me and the work I was doing in class. To help me with future units in school that I might not find as interesting at first I am going to try and find the parts that I do enjoy and have fun learning about. This will help me be more engaged in the work I do and will result in better quality work being produced from me that I will be happy with.

These are examples of how I will improve as a learner throughout the rest of the year. There are some examples of work that I didn’t like and some examples of work that I did like and am proud of. There were some things that I want to improve towards the rest of the year and some things that I want to keep doing, and this is all part of my learning. I hope by reading this you understand a little bit more about the work I do in class and some of the things that I do well and some that I do not do so well. I hope to improve as a learner by the end of the year by implementing these things into my work and all of the other things that I do. I hope you enjoyed reading about my learning and growth.
