DI blogpost

Hi guys I’m back today with another really big blogpost, so I hope you enjoy and won’t get bored reading this. On February 27 it marked the end of the biggest project I have ever done in my life. Yes, this was the weekend of the Destination Imagination tournament. I know your like, what is that, but that’s what I am going to tell you. It all started one magical day when our teacher invited a sort of ambassador from the program. She explained everything to us about the contest and each challenge. I’m not going to go into each challenge, but I will go into mine which was the scientific challenge. The idea involving my challenge was about active camouflage. In our challenge we had to make a costume or some sort of contraption that could change colour or blend into anther object. This was called the H.I.P.S.T.E.R, otherwise known as the Hiding In Plain Sight CharacTER. What we had to do for this part of the challenge was take a living person and make them invisible or extremely hard to see. This was definitely the part of the challenge that my group spent the most time on and tried to make it good. For this we did the owl suit. We got a brown jacket and sewed brown sheets that we had spray painted brown. These were the wings of the owl. We used the same spray paint to colour a tree the owl would blend into. For the second part of our challenge we had to make a non-living object that would blend int something so that it would blend in well but also the judges could see it with it being pointed out. For this part of the challenge we took a tree that we had made out of cardboard and put a door in it that folded back to reveal the wise old chameleon. This was the character in our skit that showed the owl how to use his feathers for camouflage. We came up with these ideas using lots of research about different Kinds of animals using camouflage to blend in with their surroundings. But of course what animal comes to mind when you think of colour changing, a chameleon. So we thought what better way to use that if not in the roll of an elder. Now I wasn’t there for the final presentation because of some unfortunate events, but from what I heard this turned out really well and the group did amazing just as I thought they would.
